The preschool window

Ages 3 to 5 is when the brain does its loudest learning.

Between birthdays three and six, language doubles, friendships start to form, and routines lock in for life. This is the age the research keeps pointing to — the years where small, daily ABA practice pays back the most. The goal isn’t to drill your child. The goal is to use the window you actually have.

Language explosion

Most kids triple their vocabulary between 3 and 5. We turn every routine into a chance to request, label, and answer.

Peers, not just adults

Friendship is a skill. We coach turn-taking, sharing, and joining play with same-age peers in small groups.

Calmer transitions

Cleanup time, getting in the car, leaving the park — we build calm endings with visual schedules and pre-warnings.

Kindergarten readiness

Sit for circle time, raise a hand, line up, use the bathroom independently. The everyday skills schools quietly expect.

What therapy looks like

A typical preschool day, built around play.

Nothing about our sessions feels like a clinic. Your child plays, sings, sorts, paints, and snacks. The teaching is hidden inside the play — that’s the whole point. The BCBA writes the plan; the RBT runs it warmly, one-to-one, with goals tracked on a tablet so progress stays honest.

1

Greeting & warm-up

Hang up your coat, pick a sticker, say hello. Small wins to start the day on yes.

2

Table-time play

Puzzles, matching, fine-motor crafts. Language goals tucked into every turn.

3

Peer time / circle

Songs, story, sharing the bin. We sit beside your child to coach friendship in real time.

4

Snack & bathroom routines

Wash hands, open the container, ask for help — the exact independence schools expect.

5

Outdoor or gross-motor

Climbing, scooters, ball play — the body settles the brain.

Where therapy happens

Center, home, or both — you pick what fits.

Most preschoolers do best with some peer exposure plus some home practice. We’ll talk through your family’s reality — siblings, work schedules, transportation — and write a plan that actually fits the week you live.

Quality care without the wait

Don’t lose another preschool month.

We can usually start within a week, and most families pay $0 through insurance. Call us today and we’ll handle the rest — including the insurance call.

Questions parents ask

FAQ for parents of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.

Is 3 to 5 too early or too late to start ABA?

Neither. Ages 3 to 5 are right inside the window the research most strongly supports for ABA. You don’t need a final diagnosis to start — many of our preschool families begin while testing is still scheduled. Earlier is better than later, but it is never too late to give your child more skills.

How many hours per week do preschoolers do?

It depends on the child. Some 3-year-olds start at 15–20 hours a week; others ramp toward 30–35 hours by age 4 if the goals call for it. Your BCBA writes the recommendation based on your child’s assessment, and your insurance authorizes from there. We always start gently and grow with your family.

Can my child do ABA and attend preschool at the same time?

Yes — lots of our families do both. We’ll schedule ABA hours around preschool and even coordinate with the teacher when you give permission. For some families, our center serves as the full-day program; for others it’s a few targeted sessions a week.

What if my child melts down at every transition?

That’s one of the most common reasons families call us. Transitions melt down because something feels unpredictable. We use visual schedules, first-then language, and gentle pre-warnings so endings stop feeling like surprises. We coach parents on the exact words to use at home, so the calm holds after we leave.

Will my child be ready for kindergarten on time?

We’d never promise a timeline — every child is different — but kindergarten readiness is the single biggest goal we write at this age. Sitting for circle, lining up, asking for help, using the bathroom independently, recognizing letters and numbers: those are the everyday skills we’re actively building. Your BCBA reviews progress every two weeks and adjusts the plan accordingly.
